About Morgan Lewis
Morgan Lewis London forms part of the firm’s 31-office global network and has a 40-year legacy of delivering specialised advisory and contentious legal services. While rooted in its Boston heritage in energy and employment law, the London team is widely recognised for its expertise in emerging markets, antitrust litigation, contentious financial services, regulatory investigations, aviation finance, and debt capital markets. In the latest wave of expansion, in Q4 2024, Morgan Lewis London added three prominent intellectual property practitioners with a focus on life sciences: Hiroshi Sheraton (contentious intellectual property, ex-Baker McKenzie), Luciana Griebel (transactional intellectual property, ex-Covington & Burling), and Tim Powell (patent litigator, co-founder of Powell Gilbert). The new hires highlight a renewed focus of Morgan Lewis London to grow their capabilities in life sciences and align with the firm’s global strategy, by which revenue from life sciences forms around 12-14% of global revenue.
Morgan Lewis London regularly appears before enforcement agencies and courts around the world on complex litigation and regulatory investigations, particularly those relating to employment, antitrust, energy, financial services and intellectual property. In a landmark antitrust litigation, Morgan Lewis London represented Sainsbury's in the interchange fees case against Visa. Upon a successful appeal to the UK Supreme Court, it was held that Visa’s practice of charging fees per transaction to merchants was anti-competitive, setting critical precedents for competition damages claims in collective damages actions, including those against MasterCard under the then new UK’s “opt-out” regime. On an ongoing basis, Morgan Lewis has a strong track record in trademark litigation and copyright enforcement on behalf of US clients in the UK and throughout Europe, claiming Netflix and X Corp. on its client roster since 2017 and 2014 respectively.
Morgan Lewis London serves a diverse client base in the energy sector, including BP, Equinor, Energy Harbor Corp., and Igneo Infrastructure Partners. The team advises on all aspects of energy transactions - from development, financing, and acquisition to divestiture of resources - as well as regulatory issues regarding energy. This expertise aligns with the firm’s strengths in emerging markets, supported by close collaboration with its Middle East offices in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. In 2024, the London team advised Presight AI Holding plc, an Abu Dhabi-listed AI and big-data analytics company, in forming AIQ, a joint venture with UAE’s state-owned oil company ADNOC and G42. This partnership merged AIQ’s cutting-edge energy AI solutions with Presight’s analytics and international market reach, positioning AIQ as a leader in energy-focused AI innovation.
For the fourth year in a row, Morgan Lewis was globally ranked #1 in Breadth of Commitment for its dedication to pro bono by The American Lawyer’s 2024 Pro Bono Scorecard, an annual survey of pro bono efforts at major US law firms. In 2024, Morgan Lewis volunteers globally served 2,365 clients on a range of pro bono projects, including aiding efforts to combat domestic violence in the UK and work with Amicus, a London-based non-profit advocating for those on death row in the US. Each lawyer contributed at least 20 pro bono hours, with the average exceeding 50 hours in the year. The firm’s commitment extends beyond year-round initiatives to include an annual Community Impact Week to celebrate their achievements and focus on acts of service, pro bono clinic advice, legal training and educational opportunities from community partners.
